History Hotel Rio sul Mare
The building where the Hotel Rio sul Mare is now located has a history of more than 200 years, we find it already in the first prints of the 19th century when Rio Marina enters the scene of the second industrial revolution thanks to the mining quarries that extracted iron. Initially it was composed of several rooms: Casa Marassi (brother-in-law of the mine owners), animal stables, boat storage, a garden and an internal courtyard. There have been various uses of historical importance for the town from a convent, to a military base during the Nazi occupation, to the municipal headquarters until the end of the 1960s when the mayor .. .. decides to auction the building with the idea of having a hotel in Rio Marina. This need is due to the imminent closure of the mines, which occurred in the 1980s, and the arrival of the tourist phenomenon, which will become popular in mass tourism shortly thereafter. Thus, on December 9, 1971, the Hotel Rio sul mare was inaugurated, in perfect 70s style, one of the first on the island to have an elevator, a personalized concierge service, full board and open all year round.
Recently renovated, the structure retains the 70s vintage style and embraces the most modern comforts, adapted to the needs of the contemporary tourist.
The nineteenth-century style facade in yellow with white finishes reflects the cheerfulness and joy in welcoming customers,
with the desire to give a relaxing and joyful holiday.
The structural arches of the ground floor have been left in memory of the former boat storage structures and the high ceilings of the
first floor equally preserved because they were the former main rooms of the Marassi house.
